Nutritional care for the elderly

Nutritional care involves a full nutrition and diet record of the resident which includes:

  • Weight history,
  • Malnutrition Risk Assessment using BAPEN malnutrition advisory group guidelines.

Nutritional care and treatment assessment and recommendations. This includes:

  • BMI assessment
  • Mobility and medical considerations
  • Review of diet history
  • Recommended nutritional changes.

Recommended changes may include texture modifications, diet and snack recommendations and the application of enhanced nutritional products, or respite management recommendations.

Menu audits of rest homes:

Treat audit menus for rest homes and other institutions throughout the whole of New Zealand by using a questionnaire and New Zealand Dietetic Association (NZDA) Menu Audit Tool.

This tool is used in age care facilities which caters for client groups and include professional considerations of nutritional adequacy against age group's nutritional requirements. For example Dementia cares facilities, home based or larger rest home groups.

Education

Education Services and Power point presentations are available for in service Staff, Nursing and other care professionals and Treat can be invited to present professional presentations on topics provided at the individual facilities or support education providers such as Rural Health Professional Development program and mobile services.

Additional Services

Treat specialises in Food Service Management including writing menu's and menu or food audits for a food service facilities, overseeing Resident meetings on Food Services, Education of Kitchen Staff and discussion with management to meet the nutritional needs quality and financial targets. Experience is developed from specialist training in developing menus for institutions specific for rest homes, and public and private hospitals or food service providers.
